As summer comes to an end and the new school year approaches, the prospect of a fresh start can lead to a mix of feelings, from excitement to nerves! We know how important it is to be focused and ready for a new school year, and part of this is having the right gear and supplies to be set up for success.
For the past four years, the Tridel Take Action volunteers have come together to support the annual Backpack Drive. Employees across the Group of Companies are challenged to raise funds, donate supplies, and help with the assembly of completed backpacks for kids going back to school each September. In a typical year, supplies are dropped off at Tridel’s head office and the assembly process begins.
During the time of COVID, however, the annual backpack drive looked a little different. Handling supplies and materials and coordinating volunteers was a challenge, especially with physical and social distancing restrictions in place. But the team was quick to adapt and find a new form of employee engagement to support the drive and make sure kids going back to school would be ready to go. We collected funds safely through the Canada Helps site to support the purchasing of 100 backpacks filled with supplies for residents of Alexandra Park and Leslie Nymark.
